Queensland welcomes those interested in owning and managing a new or existing business, which has a capacity to create jobs and deliver exceptional economic benefit to Queensland.

This visa allows you to stay in Queensland on a permanent basis and includes the following stream:

Significant Business History visa (132A) is for business owners or part owners who want to have a major management role in a new or existing business in Queensland.

State nomination for this visa is managed by the Queensland Government through Business and Skilled Migration Queensland (BSMQ) in collaboration with the Australian Government’s Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP).

Significant Business History visa (132A)

In addition to the DIBP criteria, applicants seeking Queensland state nomination must meet the following criteria

  • demonstrate that you have net business and personal assets of at least A$1.5 million to be transferred to Queensland within 2 years of your visa being granted, which includes a minimum of A$1 million for investment into a business and a minimum of A$500,000 for settlement costs
  • demonstrate a commitment to Queensland with an intention to reside and invest in Queensland



Step 1: Review your eligibility criteria, visa conditions and document checklist on the DIBP website and the BSMQ website. Ensure you meet both DIBP criteria and BSMQ criteria and have all your documentation prepared before you apply.

Step 2: For Queensland State nomination, submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) with SkillSelect. Please ensure all information is included in your EOI. Choose ‘Queensland’ as your preferred nominating state to be given preference over candidates selecting ‘ANY’ state.

Step 3: BSMQ assesses all EOIs that meet DIBP and BSMQ criteria. If eligible you will receive an ‘Invitation to lodge an application.’ You will be requested to provide the following documents. Documents are to be uploaded electronically through the Document Portal link provided in your invitation email. We no longer accept attachments sent to us by email.

  • QLs State Nomination Application Form
  • Business proposal
  • DIBP 1139A Form

Step 4: When you have received your invitation:

a) Upload required documents

b) Pay a non-refundable application fee to BSMQ in order to finalise your application.

BSMQ will review your application and may request further documentation. Note: you will be given two weeks to finalise your application from the date of invitation. Applications not finalised within this timeframe will be required to request for an application extension from BSMQ.

Step 5: Once your completed BSMQ application is received and approved, you will receive an invitation from DIBP to lodge your visa application. You will be given 60 days to lodge your visa appliation with DIBP.
