How to register your interest – skilled migration
Important update
On 2 September 2025, the Australian Government announced the total number of places in its 2025-26 Migration Program. But it is still finalising state and territory allocations.
Queensland will not open the 2025-26 State Nominated Migration Program until our final program allocation is confirmed.
You can however submit your Registration of Interest (ROI) for Queensland nomination from 19 September 2025, in preparation for the program opening.
In the meantime, take a look below at which skilled visas and pathways might best suit you, including instructions for how to apply for Queensland nomination.
Step 1 – Review the requirements
To begin, check that you meet both the Australian Department of Home Affairs visa requirements and Migration Queensland’s minimum nomination requirements.
Australian Government requirements:
You may register your interest in Queensland nomination for 2 skilled visas.
The Australian Department of Home Affairs requirements for each visa can be found on their website:
Migration Queensland requirements
If eligible, please make sure you also review the Migration Queensland documentation checklist.
Step 2 - Submit an Expression of Interest on SkillSelect
Submit a new, or update an existing, Expression of Interest (EOI) through the Australian Department of Home Affairs SkillSelect process. Make sure all relevant information within the EOI, including work experience, is up to date and accurate.
Also check that you are eligible to claim any points you have received on the Australian Department of Home Affairs points test.
Queensland no longer requires you to submit a new EOI each program year. EOIs in SkillSelect are valid for two years from the date they were created. Queensland will consider all EOIs until they are 715 days old. EOIs that will expire in less than 2 weeks will not be considered for selection. If you are still seeking Queensland nomination, you will need to create a new EOI in SkillSelect and then submit a new ROI for Queensland.
You are also no longer required to have selected ‘Queensland’ as your only state of interest in the EOI.
If you are applying from within Queensland, your ‘Usual Country of Residence’ must be listed as Australia.
Step 3 – Submit a Registration of Interest for Queensland nomination
Queensland requires you to submit a new Registration of Interest (ROI) each year. All ROIs submitted in the 2024-25 program year have now closed.
You must meet all Migration Queensland minimum nomination requirements at the time you submit your ROI. We will not nominate any applicants who do not meet requirements at the time your ROI is submitted.
You can only have one valid ROI for Queensland nomination. If you submit more than one ROI, only your most recent submission will be considered.
To submit your ROI, you will need:
- Your EOI number from SkillSelect
- To choose your visa subclass and skilled occupation
- To provide your:
o Passport number
o Residential and employment postcodes (only for candidates who already live in Queensland)
o Annual salary estimate (only for candidates who already live in Queensland)
o Partner information.
Step 4 – Migration Queensland selects candidates to apply for Queensland nomination
We will select candidates throughout the financial year. During this time, we are unable to respond to any enquiries about your chance of invitation, or outcomes of previous invitation rounds.
Correctly applying for Queensland nomination does not guarantee a nomination or an Australian visa. Interest in Queensland is strong. Nominations are offered at our discretion based on the number of places we have available.
You must continue to meet all Queensland requirements, at the time you are selected and apply for nomination.
Step 5 – Migration Queensland invites candidates to apply for Queensland nomination
If you are selected to apply for Queensland nomination, you will receive an invitation from Migration Queensland to the email address entered in your EOI.
You will have 14 calendar days to:
- upload the required documents and application form
- pay the non-refundable application fee.
We will assess your application against the information provided in both your EOI and ROI. We may also request further information to help us make an assessment.
If you are unable to provide the required information within the required timeframe, your application will be closed. Candidates with an incomplete application will not be invited to apply again in the same program year.
Step 6 – Applying to the Australian Government for your skilled visa
If you are nominated by Migration Queensland, you will receive an invitation from the Australian Department of Home Affairs to apply for your visa. You will have 60 days to lodge your visa application.
Applicants who do not lodge a visa application with the Australian Department of Home Affairs will not be invited to apply again in the same program year.
