Apply online

The application for Queensland State Nomination must be lodged online.

Program status

First, check whether the visa subclass (188, 190, or 491) you are interested in applying for is open for Migration Queensland to accept your Expression of Interest. You can check whether your visa subclass is open or closed under ‘Program status’ here.

If your visa subclass is open, submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect.

Provisional Stage Application

To apply for Queensland nomination for Skilled visas (subclass 190 or 491) or Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188), please refer to Application Process.

Permanent Stage Application

If you are eligible to apply for the permanent stage of your Business Innovation and Investment visa (subclass 888), please complete the registration form online and a Migration Queensland staff member will contact you with the application requirements.

Do not submit a registration form for visas that require an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect.

To apply for Queensland nomination for Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (subclass 888), please take the following steps:

Step 1: Review the immigration eligibility criteria, Queensland nomination requirements, and document checklist for your subclass 888 visa application:

  • The Department of Home Affairs website
  • The Migration Queensland website

Please ensure you will meet both immigration eligibility criteria and Queensland nomination requirements, and have all your documentation ready before you apply.

Step 2: You must register online in order to apply for state nomination.

Step 3: You will then be asked to lodge your application form and supporting documents online through the Migration Queensland document portal. Please check the documentation requirements relevant to your visa stream.

Step 4: When you have uploaded your documents, you will be required to pay a non-refundable application fee to Migration Queensland, in order to process your application. Migration Queensland will review your application and may request further information.

Note: you will be given 14 days to finalise your application from the date of invitation. If you are unable to provide the relevant information within this time frame, you must seek an extension from Migration Queensland. Applications not finalised within time frames will be closed and applicants will need to withdraw and register a new application.

  • You may only apply for a Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (subclass 888) if you hold a Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) or a Special Category visa (subclass 444).

Extension or renewal application

If you are eligible to apply for a visa extension (subclass 188 visa – Business Innovation stream or Significant Investor stream) or renewal of a Investor Retirement (subclass 405) visa, please email Migration Queensland to make a request for nomination application and provide your full name, date of birth, and current visa subclass. If you meet the requirements, we will request further information. A processing fee will apply.

Because there are different requirements to apply for a visa extension or renewal, Migration Queensland recommends that you seek professional advice from a registered migration agent or lawyer before applying.

Extension of 188 visas

Applicants for the 188 visa – Business Innovation Extension stream will be required to provide evidence of business ownership and continuous management of one or two qualifying business(es) in Queensland for at least 2 years.

For detailed information on extension requirements, please refer to the Department of Home Affairs website (Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) Innovation Extension stream).

Applicants for the 188 visa – Significant Investor Extension stream will be required to provide evidence of maintaining a complying investment for the entire period of their 188 visa.

For detailed information on extension requirements, please refer to the Department of Home Affairs website (Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) Significant Investor Extension stream).
