Global Talent visa (subclass 858)
The Global Talent visa is a permanent visa for exceptionally talented and prominent individuals who can raise Australia’s standing in their field. The program offers a migration pathway for individuals with outstanding achievements, such as being:
- highly skilled in one of the defined sectors (or in a related sector)
- currently earning, or likely to earn, at or above the Fair Work high income threshold.

To be eligible for this visa, you must be nominated by an Australian citizen, permanent resident, eligible New Zealand citizen or an Australian organisation with a national reputation in your area of talent.

Queensland nomination
MQ will consider nominating candidates who:
- are exceptionally talented
- intend to bring innovative technology to Queensland, or
- intend to bring exceptional economic benefit to Queensland.
If you wish to be considered for a nomination by Migration Queensland, please contact us with the following information:
- A resume outlining your:
- Education background
- Work experience
- Roles and responsibilities
- Major achievements
- Home address in English
- Personal details (e.g. date of birth, email, phone number)
- Registrations, licensing or professional memberships
- Current annual income
- Expected income in Australia
- A business plan (1-2 pages) which includes:
- An executive summary
- Company introduction and team structure
- Technology or product (the gap you are filling in the market or importation of technology)
- Business model (if you already have a successful global business model, please show how the business is succeeding)
- Target market/clients
- Financial forecast (e.g. how many people you will hire, and your intended investment)
- A scanned copy of your passport and identification card
- A scanned copy of your business card
- Miscellaneous documents:
- Proofs of patents, awards or news coverage
- 2-3 reference letters
Once Migration Queensland is satisfied with the merit of the application, an interview with the relevant TIQ Commissioner will be arranged. Migration Queensland will progress the process, including the completion of Form 1000 if support for the application is provided. Candidates can seek an alternative nominator if Migration Queensland is not willing to support their nomination.
Please note:
Migration Queensland is only responsible for nominating suitable candidates for the Global Talent visa. A nomination by Migration Queensland does not guarantee the candidate’s Expression of Interest (EOI) will be selected by the Department of Home Affairs. The Department of Home Affairs makes the final decision on the visa application.
National Innovation visa
In line with the Migration Strategy, the Australian Government will launch a new National Innovation visa at the end of 2024, replacing the Global Talent visa (subclass 858).
This visa will provide a permanent visa pathway for exceptionally talented migrants, such as high performing entrepreneurs, major investors and global researchers.
